Flexicare at Home offer excellent rates of pay, a generous mileage allowance and full training. However, the rewards cannot be calculated in monetary terms alone.

What do I need to become a Flexicare Carer?

You do not need any prior experience as full training and support is provided. More important is a genuine desire to make a difference to people’s lives.You will need the personal qualities of:

  • respect for people’s individuality;
  • a positive attitude;
  • reliability;
  • good English and communication skills
  • UK work eligibility check;
Full Person Specification

Flexicare Carers work in people's own homes and therefore need to be a car owner and driver. We aim to minimise travelling distance between care visits.Flexicare provide care every day of every year. It is therefore essential that all Flexicare Carers take a share of the unsociable hours.

You must be able to work:

  • at least three early mornings or evenings a week;
  • at least 4 days that fall on a weekend per month.

Training

At the start of your career with us we will provide full mandatory training including:

  • Role of the health and social-care worker and their personal development;
  • Effective Communication;
  • Equal opportunities and inclusion;
  • Principles for putting care into practice;
  • Safeguarding people from abuse;
  • Dementia awareness;
  • Risk assessments;
  • Moving and handling;
  • Responding to accidents and illness;
  • Medication Awareness and administration;
  • Dangerous substances;
  • Preventing and controlling infection; Fire safety;
  • Security;
  • Managing stress;
  • Food safety, nutrition and hydration;
  • First aid.

Other specialised training will be provided, where required or desired. This can include training in areas such as:

  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Learning Disability Support
  • Palliative care
  • End of Life care
  • And specific health condition training

In addition all employees are given the opportunity to attend our unique Psychology of Care training programme. This training has been extremely well received by our staff and has made a significant difference to not only their approach to work but also to their personal relationships and understanding of life and others. The training aims to stimulate our staff's minds, helping them to think outside the box - not just about what to do - but how to do it -identifying the right way for different clients.

Care Coordinators/Senior Carer

We are also looking to recruit experienced Senior Carers / Care Co-ordinators. To qualify for one of these important roles, you must act as a role model and exhibit high levels of compassion, empathy, consideration, reliability and flexibility and excellent skills in Microsoft Office, oral and written communication, organisation and time keeping.

Next Steps

We will acknowledge receipt of your application, either by telephone or email.

Successful candidates will be offered an interview either at our Head Office in Wakefield, or a local location in Leeds, Huddersfield, Halifax or Bradford. The interview is in two parts, a personality test, some written questions and a discussion to learn more about yourself and your availability. You would be asked to bring ID documentation with you at interview to be used for completing a criminal records search (DBS check) should your application be successful.

All interviewees are informed within two working days if they have been successful at which point successful interviewees will be sent a letter of employment with instructions to start the DBS check. Once received the HR team will complete the DBS check and acquire references with your consent.

The training manager will contact you to arrange training whilst the DBS check is being completed and references are followed up. Once completed, introductions would be arranged by your Care Manager or Care Co-Ordinator with those clients you will be assisting. You will then have an opportunity to observe the care, where applicable, and receive supervision to ensure you are confident and capable of completing all necessary tasks with the utmost care and respect shown at all times for the individual receiving the care.
