Meet the Team

We are a caring family business committed to supporting people live independently in the comfort of their own home. To do this we employ truly caring people who have a genuine passion for delivering care and support with the utmost consideration, compassion and respect.

We have a strong management team (from nursing, care and well-being backgrounds) who are committed to making a difference to people's lives. You can learn more about them and our Flexicare Carers below.

Flexicare Carers and Care Coordinators

All employees are screened to ensure they share the company's passion for excellent quality care and have a high regard for people's individuality, preferences and wishes.

All employees are scrutinised through our robust recruitment process, which includes a:

Personality test;
Verbal communication test;
Written test;
Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau and Independent Safeguarding Authority checks (DBS);
Full employment history;
Reference check (at least 2 references), including employment references;
UK work eligibility check;
Check on professional registrations (where applicable).

All our employees complete the extensive Flexicare training programme, including our unique Psychology of Care training course. This is the start of their self-development and learning journey, which they are committed to during their employment with us. Additional specific specialist training is undertaken where it is required by the care needs of the client.

We place a great importance on helping people live as independently and comfortably as they can and improving their psychological and emotional well-being. Therefore all our employees receive regular training and up-to-date information on various health conditions, psychological and emotional well-being, improving quality of life and telecare and telehealth education. We maintain a library of books and pamphlets for self-development and produce a regular newsletter with lots of information and mental stimulation activities which is available to all employees, our clients and our partners.

Ann Whaley

(Managing Director)

Ann has volunteered across numerous social care settings since her teenage years. This spurred Ann to say goodbye to her successful 29-year career in business and IT management and towards a new career in the health and social care sector. In preparation for the career change Ann completed a psychology honours degree and other postgraduate studies at the University of Leeds.

Ann is passionate about delivering holistic care focusing on emotional and psychological well-being, as well as physical well-being and the use of assisted technologies. Ann is also committed to suppo rting family and friends who act as the main carer for their loved ones.

Ann's research interests include therapies and strategies to maintain good emotional well-being, dementia, and nutrition in the elderly.

Ann believes in promoting self-development across the workforce, and supports various learning and training opportunities open to all employees.

Ann has been married for over 30 years and has 2 sons and 2 grandchildren. In her spare time Ann enjoys family life, walking and reading and visiting her large family in Ireland.

Gill Smith

(Care Manager)

Gill, a former qualified nurse, has over 30 years NHS experience. Gill's previous roles have involved co-ordination of local cancer services and a regional project exploring rehabilitation services for individuals with brain tumours. Her role as Care & Well-Being and Manager aims to provide a focus on the importance of psychological welfare for both Client and Carer. As well as managing her care manager's role, Gill promotes and teaches the psychological ethos of the company through training and well-being support.

Gill graduated in Psychology at the University of Leeds in 2010 and completed an MSc in Health Psychology at Sheffield in 2013. She is now training to become a Chartered Health Psychologist through St affordshire University. Her research interests include care-giver burden, in particular impact of stress on quality of life and psychological well-being. She is also interested in age-related chronic health conditions, particularly dementia.

Gill sponsor's children's projects in Ghana. In her spare time she enjoys walking and is a keen yoga fan! She also enjoys spending time with her family, reading and is a member of a local book group.

Kevin Whaley

(Business Development Director)

Kevin is an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about the rights of people to receive excellent quality care. Kevin's role is to manage new business and create partnerships with organisations with the aim of creating a more holistic care and support package for those we care and support. Kevin is keen to continually improve individual's well-being and peace of mind by helping them access services from these partners.

Kevin is also involved in establishing new business ventures that complement the care and support we provide in the comfort of people's own home. These new ventures will provide more community-based o pportunities to enable better quality of life and to mitigate loneliness.

Kevin also oversees the HR operations within the business and is often found interviewing new recruits to the organsiation.

Kevin studied Business Management at the University of Leeds and completed a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services.

In his spare time Kevin enjoys spending time with his young family, friends and his two dogs, yorkshire terrier Archie and basset hound Murphy. His hobbies include fishing, football and supporting Leeds United.

Amanda Metcalfe

(Senior Care Manager)

Amanda is committed to improving people's well-being and loves being able to make people smile. Amanda has completed various social care qualifications, including NVQ Level 4 in Leadership and Management in a social care setting and is an accredited Moving & Positioning trainer. Amanda has over 30 years of experience in health and social care. Before joining Flexicare, Amanda was Project Co-ordinator at "Together – For Mental Wellbeing", a charity supporting people living in the community with mental health. Amanda's started her career working in residential homes, quickly developing into an outstanding care worker and excelling through the ranks.

Amanda loves her dog Baxter, a small yorkshire terrier and enjoys visiting her son in Newcastle. Amanda also enjoys keeping fit, zumba and aqua aerobics being her favorites. In her spare time, Amanda likes to socialise, often meeting up with friends.

Kim Whaley

(Finance & IT Director)

After university Kim worked in IT, up to Technical Director of a successful software house, for over 10 years. He then branched out on his own and worked as an independent consultant for a major global bank in various positions and locations for over 15 years, always being focused on customer service within the various business groups he was contracted to assist.

As Flexicare grew it became apparent that a dedicated resource was needed in the IT and financial areas of the business, so in 2012 Kim joined the company as Finance and IT director.

In his spare time Kim likes to whack a golf ball round the local golf course.

Sarah Brudenell

(Specialist Trainer)

Sarah is a Registered General Nurse/District Nurse/Midwife and qualified in 1975. Sarah worked as a community nurse/midwife in The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire for 15 years after which she spent 10 years in nursing homes and then finally started teaching in 2002.

Sarah is an ITC accredited provider for First Aid at Work training. Sarah's qualifications, knowledge, expertise and experience is utilised for training in other training courses including: Medication, Dementia, Health and Safety, Infection Control, Food Safety, Nutrition & Hydration, Pressure Sore prevention, Epilepsy & Diabetes.

Sarah trained with Dementia Care Matters so as she could deliver excellent Dementia training. The founder of Dementia Care Matters, Dr David Sheard, has been an inspiration to Sarah. The Dementia trai ning course revolves around Dementia being an emotional experience with emotional wellbeing at the heart of true person-centred care.

Sarah's hobbies include walking, crystal healing and spending time with her grandchildren

Sarah's aspirations are to promote, through training, more awareness of the experience for people living with a dementia. On a personal level Sarah wishes to live in her little house in as eco-friendly a way as possible.

Titilayowa Ositelu

(HR Manager)

Having joined the team towards the end of 2014, young graduate Titi keeps the team smiling with his ever-positive outlook on life and sense of humour. Titi graduated in Business/Finance management in 2011 and completed a Masters degree in Human Resource Management in 2013. During his studies Titi worked part-time as a financial consultant and a Customer Service Advisor. Titi enjoys working with people and is passionate about a career in Human Resources. While working for the company Titi has progressed to become a HR Manager, overseeing a small team.

Titi enjoys going to the gym and playing football. He is an Arsenal fan adding more flavour to the football banter in the office.

Rachel Firth

(HR Administrator)

Rachel has worked for over 10 years in the care sector, mostly in nursing homes providing a wide range of services to individuals with a variety of conditions. She also has a diploma in health and social science. She has an NVQ2 and is currently doing NVQ3 in health and social care. Rachel attended college where she achieved an A level in English literature, Sociology/ Psychology and general studies. She also ran the family business for 3 years.

Rachel is a people person who has a passion for helping others, she loves the flexibility of working in HR and providing care. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also enjoys travelling and learning about different cultures. Rachel doesn’t particularly enjoy the company of spiders or snakes but does not allow that to limit her adventures.

Lucy Smith

(HR Co-Ordinator)

Lucy has been at Flexicare for over a year now, becomming a valued member of staff. She studied at Huddersfield University obtaining a degree in English Literature and Film Studies. She also went trav elling for 6 months to America where she learnt more about the culture and other ways of life.

Lucy likes dogs very much, She also loves travelling and plans to visit as many countries as she can. She also enjoys a variety of foods from different cultures and is an avid rugby fun.

Sarah Boylan

(Care Manager)

Having worked in the community for over 5years, Sarah has supported a variety of individuals suffering from a range of conditions. Sarah has a keen interest in palliative care, devoting a lot of her time to supporting service user's and their loves ones during such difficult periods. Sarah has a Business degree, achieved at Huddersfield University and enjoys making people smile.

In her spare time she enjoys holidays abroad, shopping, purchasing designer shoes with matching handbags as a bonus. Most of all she loves her pet Jug (Pug cross jack Russel) Bentley. Infact Sarah loves puppies overall and is always excited when our canine friends visit the office.

Alison Bull

(Care Manager)

Alison previously worked for Flexicare as a carer before attending University where she obtained a degree in social work. Alison also has a BTEC Diploma in Health Studies which supports her knowledge of the industry. Since completing her degree, Alison has returned to Flexicare as a care manager, supporting several service users and their carer's. Alison has a passion for ensuring service users receive the best possible care, prioritising their wishes and needs at all times. Alison is very patient and works well under pressure.

In her spare time Alison enjoys spending time with her children and tending to her two horses. Alison is a general lover of animals, in particular cats, owning 8 herself!

Joanne Tipple

(Care Administrator)

Amongst several responsibilites, Jo has the pleasure of greeting our carers and service users when visiting the office. Jo's personal beliefs centre around individuals emotional & mental wellbeing. Previously Jo has been a manager in a very busy environment, developing good people skills and teaching her the importance of patience.

Jo enjoys spending her time with her husband, daughter and family. In her spare time she enjoys taking her dog, Charlie for long walks. Jo also enjoys a wide array of cuisines and regularly eats out. She loves to socialise with her friends and visit her Grandad. Jo also enjoys family holidays, taking the opportuniry to travel much of the UK while her daughter is still young.
