We are a caring family business committed to supporting people live independently in the comfort of their own home.

To do this we employ truly caring people who have a genuine passion for delivering care and support with the utmost consideration, compassion and respect.

We have a strong management team (from nursing, care and well-being backgrounds) who are committed to making a difference to people's lives. You can learn more about them and our Flexicare Carers below.

Flexicare Carers and Care Coordinators

All employees are screened to ensure they share the company's passion for excellent quality care and have a high regard for people's individuality, preferences and wishes.

All employees are scrutinised through our robust recruitment process, which includes a:

  • Personality test;
  • Verbal communication test;
  • Written test;
  • Interview;
  • Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau and Independent Safeguarding Authority checks (DBS);
  • Full employment history;
  • Reference check (at least 2 references), including employment references;
  • UK work eligibility check;
  • Check on professional registrations (where applicable).

All our employees complete the extensive Flexicare training programme, including our unique Psychology of Care training course. This is the start of their self-development and learning journey, which they are committed to during their employment with us. Additional specific specialist training is undertaken where it is required by the care needs of the client.We place a great importance on helping people live as independently and comfortably as they can and improving their psychological and emotional well-being. Therefore all our employees receive regular training and up-to-date information on various health conditions, psychological and emotional well-being, improving quality of life and telecare and telehealth education. We maintain a library of books and pamphlets for self-development and produce a regular newsletter with lots of information and mental stimulation activities which is available to all employees, our clients and our partners.

Ann Whaley

Ann Whaley

(Care Director)

Ann has volunteered across numerous social care settings since her teenage years. This spurred Ann to say goodbye to her successful 29-year career in business and IT management and towards a new career in the health and social care sector. In preparation for the career change Ann completed a psychology honours degree and other postgraduate studies at the University of Leeds.

Ann is passionate about delivering holistic care focusing on emotional and psychological well-being, as well as physical well-being and the use of assisted technologies. Ann is also committed to suppo rting family and friends who act as the main carer for their loved ones.

Ann's research interests include therapies and strategies to maintain good emotional well-being, dementia, and nutrition in the elderly.

Ann believes in promoting self-development across the workforce, and supports various learning and training opportunities open to all employees.

Ann has been married for over 30 years and has 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. In her spare time Ann enjoys family life, walking and reading and visiting her large family in Ireland.

Kevin Whaley

Kevin Whaley

(Managing Director)

Kevin is an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about the rights of people to receive excellent quality care. Kevin's role is to manage new business and create partnerships with organisations with the aim of creating a more holistic care and support package for those we care and support. Kevin is keen to continually improve individual's well-being and peace of mind by helping them access services from these partners.

Kevin is also involved in establishing new business ventures that complement the care and support we provide in the comfort of people's own home. These new ventures will provide more community-based opportunities to enable better quality of life and to mitigate loneliness.

Kevin studied Business Management at the University of Leeds and completed a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services.

In his spare time Kevin enjoys spending time with his young family having welcomed his third son in December 2018, friends and his two dogs, yorkshire terrier Archie and basset hound Murphy. His hobbies include fishing, supporting Leeds United and loves to travel.

Kim Whaley

Kim Whaley

(Finance & IT Director)

After university Kim worked in IT, up to Technical Director of a successful software house, for over 10 years. He then branched out on his own and worked as an independent consultant for a major global bank in various positions and locations for over 15 years, always being focused on customer service within the various business groups he was contracted to assist.

As Flexicare grew it became apparent that a dedicated resource was needed in the IT and financial areas of the business, so in 2012 Kim joined the company as Finance and IT director.

In his spare time Kim likes to whack a golf ball round the local golf course.

Samantha Simpson

(Care Manager)

Samantha (Sam) has worked in various adult care settings for several years, including home care, building a wealth of knowledge and experience of the care sector. Most recently she was Care Manager of a retirement living development where she supported homeowners through the transition of independent living into supported living. Part of this role involed recognising care needs and building person centred care packages for those requiring support. 

Sam is passionate about delivering a high standard of person centred care and promoting emotional well-being, using psychology foundations, for both clients and their family. As part of her continuing development, Sam is working towards completing a QCF Level 5 in Health & Social Care

Before starting her career in adult social care, Sam worked in childcare for several years before becoming a successful registered childminder for 12years, maintaining a 'Good' Ofsted rating throughout.

In her spare time, Sam enjoys spending time with her four sons and granddaughter. She can often be found watching the youngest of her boys playing football. 

Lucy Smith

Lucy Smith

(HR Co-Ordinator)

Lucy has worked at Flexicare since 2016, becomming a valued member of staff. Lucy's main role is to plan the rota's which is very demanding while supporting the HR and Care teams. She studied at Huddersfield University obtaining a degree in English Literature and Film Studies. She also went travelling for 6 months to America where she learnt more about the culture and other ways of life.

Lucy likes dogs very much, She also loves travelling and plans to visit as many countries as she can. She also enjoys a variety of foods from different cultures and is an avid rugby fun.

Yongmin Lee

Yongmin Lee

(Community Care Leader)

Prior to working in home care, Yongmin spent several years working with vulnerable adults within supported accommodation, providing a wide range of services to vulnerable individuals and families who struggled on a daily basis with a variety of issues, including mental health, substance misuse, homelessness and repeat offending.

Having started with Flexicare in 2019, Yongmin's experience resulted in him being well suited to supporting some of our most vulnerable service users and became a reliable team member. Yongmin was offered more responsibilities in 2022 and now supports the Care Management team in the community where amongst several responsibilites, ensures the highest levels of care are delivered alongisde supervising carers and completing client reviews. Yongmin has also recently accepted the opportunity to do some part-time work within the HR department, ensuring only the best quality candidates are recuited to join the team.

Yongmin is a very family orientated individual who enjoys travelling, experiencing the different cultures and sights around the world with a keen interest in South Korea, where his name originates from. Yongmin travelled the world from being 5 years old, competing in the Korean national sport, Taekwondo. When Yongmin first travelled to South Korea, he stayed with a Korean family who had a big impact on his life, giving him a Korean name while he was over there. Yongmin had such a passion for the Korean people, culture and country; so started to self-study the Korean language as well as legally change his name.

Neelam Abbasi (Nellie)

(Senior Talent Aquisition Recruiter)

Nellie got her start in healthcare back in 2014, studying Health and Social Care. A few years later, in 2018, she landed her first job in homecare after completing work experience at a number of different Care homes and hasn't looked back since. That same year, she wrapped up her degree in Human Resources and Business Management from the University of Huddersfield.

Since then, Nellie's tried her hand at recruiting in all sorts of fields. Now, she's putting her experience to work at Flexicare at Home as a Specialist Recruitment Officer in Adult Social Care. It's a role that lets her combine her passion for care work with her knack for Recruitment.

Sarah Brudenell

Sarah Brudenell

(Specialist Trainer)

Sarah is a Registered General Nurse/District Nurse/Midwife and qualified in 1975. Sarah worked as a community nurse/midwife in The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire for 15 years after which she spent 10 years in nursing homes and then finally started teaching in 2002.

Sarah is an ITC accredited provider for First Aid at Work training. Sarah's qualifications, knowledge, expertise and experience is utilised for training in other training courses including: Medication, Dementia, Health and Safety, Infection Control, Food Safety, Nutrition & Hydration, Pressure Sore prevention, Epilepsy & Diabetes.

Sarah trained with Dementia Care Matters so as she could deliver excellent Dementia training. The founder of Dementia Care Matters, Dr David Sheard, has been an inspiration to Sarah. The Dementia training course revolves around Dementia being an emotional experience with emotional wellbeing at the heart of true person-centred care.

Sarah's hobbies include walking, crystal healing and spending time with her grandchildren

Sarah's aspirations are to promote, through training, more awareness of the experience for people living with a dementia. On a personal level Sarah wishes to live in her little house in as eco-friendly a way as possible.
